The Strategy

The third restaurant concept from The Philosophy of Pie team (Park Street Pizza and Bahler Street), Dola Jean’s serves up Detroit-style Deep-dish pies. We loved the idea of “building” each pizza from pan up and married the idea of hard work to a more personal story—that of Dola Jean, grandmother of one of the owners. Deeply loving, and wholly committed to the well-being of family, friends and community, she loved bringing people together to share good food. Her legacy of kindness and hospitality is the very essence of “Pizza Done Proud.”

“We have had the privilege of working with Chris on three separate occasions over the past 10 years as we have developed unique brand identities for each of our restaurant concepts. Each one presented a unique challenge with the first being an existing brand needing to find a clear voice, the next an emerging brand that was in its early years, and the most recent brand was just a quirky idea when we began to work on it together. With Dola Jean's, our latest project, Chris was able to be a part of that conversation from the very beginning, first helping us choose our name then, after many thoughtful questions, starting to help bring our vision into focus through words, writing copy for our website. From developing our Pie-losophies at Park Street in 2013,  to pairing classic novels to our wood-fired pizzas with Bahler Street in 2016, to helping bring a sense of nostalgia to our menu names at Dola Jean's in 2024...we truly wouldn't have the iconic brands we love today without her help.
